International Marian Center

Car

Domus Carmeli is an International Marian Centre for the Discalced Carmelite Order.
Its primary purpose is to promote and renew the Order’s marian charisma. This project is the result of a proposal and request from the Order’s General Government to the Province of Portugal.

The structure is composed of an area for the resident community with eight rooms, and an area for guests, with a capacity of 50 double rooms.

It has a chapel for private use, conference rooms and the necessary facilities for training activities. The building has 3 floors and a basement for parking. The ground floor holds the services (reception, dinning room, Chapel, conference rooms, etc). The first and second floors are the residential area. It makes up a total of 1662 sq. meters.

The activities that are planned for this Centre will aim first and foremost at the spiritual promotion of the Carmelites - Fathers, Sisters and members of the Secular Order – in its marian dimension.

It is our desire that the Shrine of Fatima stands as the centre and inspiring source of this renewal of marian charisma, above all with the celebration of the Reconciliation and prayer, the main and regular activity of the resident community.

As fruits of our endeavours we expect to offer a fraternal warm welcome and service to all those who seek God at the Mother’s house. Domus Carmeli will be a refuge to all the ‘weary of life’ looking for peaceful rest as well as to those who are searching for God’s will in their lives.

Inauguration homily of “Domus Carmeli, Fatimae atrium” It was with intimate joy that I accepted the invitation to preside over the dedication of this church and thus associate myself to the Discalced Carmelites’ celebration; deep bonds of friendliness have linked me for a long time with this religious family. With this joy I greet each of you with esteem and fraternal affection.
